I amazed myself when I realized how long I have been listening to Madlib. The Beat Konductor has been releasing true gems since the 90’s and has yet to disappoint since doing so. From the early Lootpack projects; to the classic Jaylib with J Dilla; to his recent work with Freddie Gibbs and Kanye West; Madlib has put out a lot of work. He has in many interviews confessed that about 70% of his beats will never see the light of day.

At the heart of his early studio was the Korg D1600 to record the loops created with his many MPC’s and SP samplers. DAW’s are great, do not get me wrong, but I prefer the twisting knobs and sliding fader as opposed to the clicking and clacking of a computer mouse. Marking the in’s and out’s on a board like the D1600 never gets old to me.
